Design and Deployment of a Control Center for Remote Automated Vehicles Management
Project despription
The goal of this project is to focus on design and deployment of remote operation
technology to assists in operation of connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) by
applying all previous results in real-word contexts. The aim is to raise the maturity level from experimental validation (TRL 4-5) to large-scale pilots and demonstrations (TRL 6- 7), thereby enabling safe, scalable, and certifiable remote operation in real-world environment. Specifically, the focus of this project is on the development and deployment of remote operation center, as we see that this is a crucial part that will enable large-scale deployment of remote operation of CAVs. Therefore, the main objective of this project is to propose a remote operation center concept that scales from remote operation of a fleet of a single vehicle type to a fleet of multiple vehicle types, while ensuring operator safety and performance through advanced monitoring methods. We will also ensure that the developed concept has a resilient system architecture, which guarantees safety despite latency or disturbances. Moreover, this project will expand research topics to consider different attributes of wireless communication networks (e.g., age of information, quality of experience), which have not been considered in the previous projects. Lastly, we will explore certification and legal frameworks for remote operations that align with existing frameworks being discussed in, e.g., in UNECE, and ISO working groups.
