Startup inspired by ITRL research nominated for award
The startup Gordian, originally a spin off from ITRL research, is nominated for the EIT Urban Mobility Accelerator Pitch Awards. On the 22nd of June (5 pm) they will go head-to-head with 24 other startups for investor packages, software packages and tickets to international startup events.

ITRL, its unique integrated- / systems perspective, its projects, and its extensive academic and industrial partner network has helped the founders of Gordian (which include two ITRLers, Gyözö Gidofalvi and Jesper Provoost) to gain a unique insight into the challenges that the transport industry is facing today.
Founded in 2020, Gordian Logistics Optimization Systems is a DeepTech startup that uses world-unique transport route data analytics with AI to create SaaS products that enable stakeholders (vehicle and charging equipment manufacturers, electric grid companies, transport planning authorities, and logistics and mobility service providers) to plan and operate efficient and sustainable transport systems that maximize the benefits of electrification, automation and digitalization.
The company was originally inspired by research produced in projects such as RENO , LOLA, PREDICT , and to some extent InterCityLog. The idea to launch a startup were based on the RENO project’s first indications about socioeconomic value and impact that the application of 20+ years of research into transport analytics and optimizations applied to transport electrification (in particular “charging infrastructure planning”) could deliver to the transport industry. The potential of this has also been recognized by the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) that listed the “business project” Gordian on its Research2Business top 100 list for 2020 .
The LOLA prestudy has helped to understand how to extend these business values to electric grid companies. The data-driven, simulation based, real-time travel time- and travel demand prediction and heuristic and artificial intelligence based proactive (travel demand-responsive) repositioning and dispatching methods for varying sized vehicle fleets, which were developed in the PREDICT project, has extended Gordian’s focus from transport infrastructure planning to logistics. The InterCityLog project inspires the application of the Gordian logistics solutions to consolidated first and last mile forward and reverse logistics.
