PhD defence Can Yang
On 16 december CAN YANG will defend his PhD work in the field of Geoinformatics, titled ‘Efficient Map Matching and Discovery of Frequent and Dominant Movement Patterns in GPS Trajectory Data’. The public defence can be attended via Zoom, starting 13.00. Due to the current situation, the event for the wider audience is online only.
The wide deployment of the Global Positioning System (GPS) sensors has resulted in a massive amount of valuable data for the field of transportation and urban planning. As part of his thesis, Can has developed a set of algorithms and tools for efficient ‘map matching’ and for the extraction frequent and dominant movement patterns in GPS trajectory data. The software is tested successfully on both synthetic and real-world data sets and is shown to be superior over state-of-the art methods. The proposed methods collectively provide an effective solution for answering sophisticated queries concerning frequent and dominant movement patterns in GPS trajectory data.
