KTH team at Formula Student competition in Silverstone, UK

Published Aug 24, 2018

KTH Formula student team has once again participated in the Formula Student (FS) competition. FS is the world’s largest student engineering design competition where student teams for all over the world compete to design, build and race with a formula racing car.

Each year KTH Formula Student team competes against over 100 universities from everywhere in the world in designing, building and testing a racing car. This year the team qualified to participate in the FSUK in Silverstone, UK. The KTH team have been sposored by ITRL for designing and building their electric car. They saw all their hard work rewarded with a price for "Best High Voltage Powertrain Implementation" from Mercedes-AMG HPP. ITRL would like to congratulate the team for this great achievement!

Formula Student participants have to design a car taking in consideration multiple aspects both in building and manufacturing but also considering the economic aspects of the potential production of the car. The car that the students present competes in several different challenges, including static events (Business presentation, Cost report, Design event) and dynamic events (Acceleration, Skid pad, Autocross, Endurance, Energy efficiency).

This year's edition of the competition saw for the first time an autonomous car being presented, paving the way for the upcoming competitions. A category for driverless cars was created for this year's edition, suggesting more autonomous cars will join the competition in the future.
